Caesar’s story

Our beautiful boy Caesar, recently had a CT scan, and unexpectedly it picked up two small tumours in his lung – fortunately, they were very small. Dr Andrew, from SASH, successfully removed part of Caesar’s lung, so that there were safe margins on the tumours. It was a big surgery, but Caesar came through it brilliantly. Dr Andrew says there is no adverse impact removing part of the lung. A small melanoma was also removed at the same time. Caesar needed a smaller follow up surgery which also went well. Dr Andrew is very pleased with Caesar’s progress, and all his test results have been good so far. Our brave boy needs to have about 6 months of chemotherapy to ensure he has the best chance of recovery. He has a good prognosis, because we were screening, and his cancer was picked up early. Caesar has started to see Dr Sandra, SASH’s oncologist. Fortunately chemotherapy only requires Caesar  to take a tablet 3 days a week.

Caesar’s oncologist advises that most dogs don’t have any significant side effects, and any side effects can usually be managed well with medication. Caesar has just started this treatment and his foster carer says so far, so good. Caesar needs to have regular blood tests, and x-rays to check on his progress. We are so lucky that Caesar’s condition was picked up early and that SASH is kindly subsidising his treatment in order to make it manageable for us. Even so, we still need to raise about $12,000 to cover his surgery and 6 months of cancer treatment, and various screening tests. It’s a lot of money, but Caesar is worth it and with this treatment he has a good chance of a cure or remission. He is such a courageous and special boy. He deserves all the care and support that we can give him. His foster carer Kathy is also going the extra mile, to get Caesar to his appointments, and giving him lots of TLC. We are so grateful for her support too.

Caesar?s treatment is a lot more expensive than we expected, so we need to work really hard to try and raise as much as possible between now and Christmas, in order to cover his treatment. This year we are dedicating our Christmas Raffle to Caesar. All money raised will help pay for his surgery and cancer treatment. We have some great prizes, including a lovely silver Tiffany necklace, lots of great shopping vouchers and more.

If you would like to help Caesar, please consider buying or selling some raffle tickets, or making a tax-deductible cash gift. Please email david@sydneypetrescue.com.au for raffle tickets, or you can make a cash gift at https://www.givenow.com.au/sydneypetrescue and receive an automatic receipt.
Please email your receipt to David. Thank you for your support.

If you haven’t already got some for your kitty we will have cat grass available at our Cronulla stall.

2) Ban Live Export  rally

Sunday 15th April 2012 at 1.00pm,

on the steps of Town Hall.

For more info please visit

http://banliveexportau-eorg.eventbrite.com

Extract below:

” Despite what the Government, Meat and Livestock Australia and LiveCorp (as well as many other people involved in this insidious, cruel trade) would have us believe, Australian animals are still suffering horrendously at the hands of the Live Export industry. The so-called “supply chain assurances” are failing to protect our cattle in Indonesia, and millions of sheep are still being sent to the Middle East where they, too, face slaughter without stunning.

The time has come for us to rally once again in Sydney, and protest against this most insidious industry. Let’s send a strong message to the Government that we will not tolerate animal cruelty, and we will not be silenced until all live animal exports are banned.

Join us on Sunday 15th April at 1.00pm, on the steps of Town Hall.

Speakers include: David Shoebridge (Greens), Adele Lloyd (Sentient), Luke Sullivan (Animal Rights Coaltion) Emma Hurst and Phillip Hall (both of Animal Liberation).

Bring your family and friends, banners and placards, your voice and your passion, and let’s make this rally HUGE.

Christmas Raffle 2011

All proceeds go to support our rescued pets.

It’s That Time of Year Again!
Time for the Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption Christmas Raffle!!!!

It’s been a busy time for Sydney Pet Rescue this year with lots of rescues.

To help support our rescue efforts we are running our annual Christmas Raffle. This year we want to blitz our target and raise over $5000.00!!  We can’t do it without your help, so any support you can give is greatly appreciated.

All proceeds raised from the raffle will go towards the rescue, rehabilitation, specialist care and the general up keep of our animals over the coming months.  With the breeding season right upon us, our vet bills sky rocket due to the number of animals being desexed, vaccinated and cared for. We hope that the money raised from the Christmas Raffle will help cover some of these expenses.

Tickets are $2 each, 3 for $5
Book of 10 tickets is $16

Please refer to the Christmas Raffle 2011 Page  for the results.

Sunday 23 October 2011  Camden ‘Paws in the Park’

Valarie, myself and Mitchell attended the Camden ‘Paws in the Park’ today at Camden, where we raised some money for the doggies.
Val made some fantastic dog / cat treats and lovely Viennese shortbread biscuits, which we sold as ‘buddy packs’ (cookies for people, treats for your dog).
Mitchell was a great help as he set up the gazebo and tables and packed and unpacked the car…men are useful!!!
I made my Hawaiian cupcakes, liver brownies and frittata’s again
It was a really hot day, so we filled up 2 big plastic tubs of water, one for drinking, one for bathing, which all the dogs loved and were grateful for. Some of the dogs wouldn’t get out of the tubs and had a great time lying in the water on such a hot day. We even had a few queue’s for the bath !!!!

Despite the heat,  a great time was had by all and we raised a whopping $471.05 for the dogs in just 4 hrs !!!!!!!

Emma Jane & Nigel Run the Sun Run for Sydney Pet Rescue!

Saturday 5th February 2011

We managed it in 58 min 21 sec.  I am very pleased with myself as 4 weeks ago, I could not even jog for a minute! This is the first run that I have ever done so I did not know what to expect.  It was very hard especially in the heat, but I am so proud and will continue to train ready for the next one!

I chose Sydney Pet Rescue as we had a dog called Derek when we lived in England.  We got him from the Dogs’ Trust there and we had him for 5 years.  He was a biter but we stuck by him and this reduced significantly over this time.  He was the most loving dog, and had so much character.

We had to take Derek back to the Dogs Trust before we moved over here in November.  He was 14 years old, and he would not have gone through customs with his biting history.  It was the hardest thing that I had to do, and it still hurts now.  So I wanted to give something back, which is why I chose your charity.

I am so proud to say that my target of $300 was exceeded and so far the money stands at $345!!

Hugest thanks for their great effort, particularly in the terrible heatwave – you two are just  awesome

The Cruelty Free Festival
7th November in Belmore Park, Sydney city.

It was estimated that around 4,000 animal lovers attended. The festival was a long day it started at 10am and finished at 6pm.
It was a huge success, although a bit muddy!! All our business cards and flyers were taken by eager people, just learning about our rescue organisation and many many volunteer forms were filled out. The highlight was all the people who were keen to volunteer, we might also get some new foster carers, marketing, tshirt designers and transporters! Which is fantastic!

Foster carers, Darren, Kate and Anita attended with foster dogs Squid and Titan. The two little pups, had a great day socialising and eating vegan doggy food! To top off a fantastic day, we raised over $300 with donations and the sale of Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption Xmas cards

This was a great festival to attend and we got the SPRA message out to a lot of people.

Ps: A HUGE thanks to Kate and Darren – awesome awesome work!

Ps: Kate is going to stick some pix on facebook.

As an animal lover I am always looking for innovative ways to fund raise for animal charities.
Please help me raise funds for Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption.

For anyone who knows me, they understand what a huge animal lover I am. They also know I like to run.
Unfortunately I can’t adopt every pet in need, so the next best thing is for me to raise funds and awareness for Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption Inc.
I set myself a goal this year to run a half marathon, and I am targeting the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival in September 2010.

I can’t think of a better way to combine both passions other than dedicating my training and running this year to raise funds and awareness for Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption Inc.

You can view my progress and updates on my blog.

http://marathonofagoal.blogspot.com/

I’ll also be running in the Bay run on the 1st of August as a warm up for the running festival. Stay tuned for details on this.

Waringah Council’s Dogs Big Day Out
Sunday 29 August 2010,  10.30am – 2.30pm
Lionel Watts Oval, Blackbutts Rd, Frenchs Forest

Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption had a stall at the annual Dog’s Big Day Out. We had a great day at the Dog’s Big Day Out. Foster carers Kate and Darren brilliantly made tasty doggie cupcakes, slice and cookies to sell. Darren’s dog, ‘Biscuit’, was one of our best salesmen and was there to welcome people with smiles and a wagging tail. The baked goods were a great hit with the crowd and we raised over $310, which is fantastic! Kate brought foster dog ‘Dash’ along, to represent all the rescued dogs we had saved and are going to save this year. Dash is still looking for his forever home, which is hard to believe because he is such an amazing boy. Thanks to everyone who supported us through donations and who came to visit us. We had heaps of fun and meet loads of new people, so it was a fantastic experience.

The Bunnings BBQ at Taren Point, went smoothly on Saturday and although we noticed a drop in customers since the new Bunnings Kirrawee store opened we still managed to raise over $890.00!!

Thank you very much to everyone who helped with the BBQ. All your hard work is much appreciated. $890 covers the cost for us to rescue 42 pets from Death Row (cost of a micro-chip) so in context, you can see how important your fundraising efforts are to our animals.
Thank you again to Melissa, our hardworking Fundraising Co-ordinator and the BBQ team! You’re all fantastic!

RICHMOND COLLEGE OF TAFE SPRING OPEN DAY

The whole college was open for its 4th Annual Spring Open Day. Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption had a stall set up in the Animal Care Section where we had lot of people coming to find out about volunteering and the rescue work we do. Sunday 30 August 2009

We had a great day today at The Dogs Big Day Out in Frenchs Forest.

We had lots of people coming up to the stall to have a chat and pick up a flyer or brochure, but most of all the Doggie Cupcakes sold like hot cakes!! A HUGE thank you to Anita Chan for baking all the cupcakes and for coming up with the great idea. The delish flavours such as Carrot and Peanut Butter, Sardine, Broccoli and Beef and Broccoli and Chicken with mashed potato icing all went down a treat and we sold out by 1pm!!!
We also sold lots of raffle tickets and a few people took a guess at the Kibble guessing competition.
We made $309.00 from the cupcakes sales, raffle, kibble comp and donations.  Our donation bin was also full by the end of the day with heaps of Beniful Dog Food which the Purina tent was giving out. So lots of doggie food for the future foster doggies!

Thank you also to David and Nicky for their help throughout the day. The day couldn’’t have been a success without all of your help and support!!

Cheers

Fund-raiser BBQ
Saturday 3 January 2009  from 9am – 3pm
at Bunnings Warehouse 71 Reserve Road, Artarmon

On Saturday 3rd January 2009 the Bunnings Fundraising BBQ went ahead at the Artarmon Warehouse and what a success it was!! We raised over $1200.00!!  This is a fantastic result, with the money going towards little Thomas the kitten’s recent specialist vet treatment.
On Christmas Eve Thomas was raced to the hospital after he became very ill. He has been receiving specialist care at the Animal Referral Hospital, South Strathfield. After many tests it was revealed that he had a seriously bad side effect from a drug which he had previously been treated with, for a non serious condition. His treatment costs have reached $2,450.00. We know this is a lot of money, but we can’t turn our backs on Thomas as he is trying so hard and the indications are that he is improving. You can read all about Thomas’s journey here http://www.freewebs.com/sydneypetrescueandadoption/petsneedingurgenthelp.htm

A massive THANK YOU to David Halliburton, Marie Crilley, Jane Klinker, Grae Edwards, Jannette Wells, Sue Smith, Kasia Manton and Michelle & Erich Alber for giving up their time to help at the BBQ. Without their teamwork and support the BBQ could not have gone ahead!! Big Purrs from Thomas!!

Cruelty Free Living Festival

Sunday 2 November 2008 Belmore Park, Haymarket.
The day was highly successful. Our stall generated lots of interest and many volunteer forms and foster carer forms were handed out completed. Jet and Angel (Jenna’s Pups) came down for a visit too and stayed at the stall for a while for people to meet them.

We ran a raffle for a Vegan Hamper which proved popular, selling tickets for a gold coin donation. The raffle was won by Grant Davis from Sutherland.
Special thanks to Sydney’s Wildflower Nursery who kindly gave us some beautiful plants to decorate our stand. They were really bright and looked great.

A big thank you to Melissa for the organising. Thanks to Maria and David who manned the stall with Melissa and to all who helped.

GYMEA VILLAGE FAIR 26/10/08

A special thank you to Battery World Caringbah & Kirrawee for the use of their marquee.

TNT World Animal Day
10th October 2008

A big thank you to all the staff at TNT Chullora Depot for showing their support towards Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption.

TNT put on a gold coin donation vegetarian breakfast that was delicious plus they ran a raffle to help raise funds for the rescued pets.
All the staff contributed with a donation of pet food. Look how full the table was! We were thrilled with the support and compassion shown.

Little pups Bailey and Bosco made a star appearance and lapped up all the attention.

Over $450.00 was raised for the charity, which has come in very handy for the emergency vet care needed for little kitten Bree.

From all the rescued pets at Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption –

Thank you TNT Chullora!!!
